Models and providers
Free models out of the box, or bring your own keys.
Free models
The BambooKit provider includes free models. Select one in the model picker (Ctrl+'); there is nothing to configure. Models that are listed by the free service but cannot currently answer are hidden. Free models can be busy; if one fails, pick another.
Your own keys
Settings → Providers, or command palette → Connect provider. Choose a provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, xAI, local Ollama and many more) and paste the key.
| Shown as | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Environment | The key comes from an environment variable on your PC, e.g. OPENAI_API_KEY |
| Config | The provider is defined in the agent's configuration file |
| Custom | Added with Add an OpenAI-compatible provider by base URL |
Keys are stored on your PC only. Requests go straight from your PC to the provider and never pass through BambooKit Cloud.
Adding keys from your phone
On the phone open Profile → AI providers, choose the PC and the provider, paste the key and press Add key. The key is encrypted on the phone for that PC only (RSA-OAEP with SHA-256 wrapping an AES-256-GCM key) and only the PC can decrypt it. BambooKit Cloud sees only ciphertext, never stores it and deletes it as soon as the PC confirms. The key is never shown again; to change it, add a new one or Remove it. Listing providers from the phone needs BambooKit Desktop 1.0.3 or newer.
